Today is Day 14 and Lanie’s last day of chemo. As expected, though, she started feeling the effects of chemo last night. She’s been feverish, achy, tired, and so far not hungry. She had a reaction to the platelets she was given last night. She started breaking out in hives. The nurse immediately stopped the transfusion and gave her Benadryl, which helped and also made her drowsy.
The update from the doctor this morning was that all her labs look good. They have the DIC under control so she will come off the Heparin drip today. In fact, she’ll come off all her IVs today. As long as she eats and drinks, she won’t have to stay on fluids.
Lanie has started getting fevers, getting sores in her mouth, and her body is very achy. She hasn’t been sleeping well, so the doctor said they can give her something before she sleeps tonight to maybe help her get some rest. She can have something (including morphine) for the pain if she needs it. Lanie likes to stay aware of everything, though, so she’d probably just stick with the Tylenol and something to help her sleep.
The doctor is going to give Lanie something to help her stop bleeding. It’ll be an oral pill that’s taken once a day. If that doesn’t work, they’ll give her a shot of something else that should stop it.
The chest x-ray she took revealed that she was starting to open up that area in the bottom, right lung where they saw what they think might be fluid. It’s not pneumonia so that’s good.
Also, I am working to write up posts to catch everyone up. I just wanted to get this up and running for those who are following. I’ll be creating a page explaining Lanie’s initial presentation, then I’ll add posts about the critical DIC situation.
Back in Day 14 post to do an update. Lanie is really not feeling well today. The effects of the chemo are just as they said so far.
Continued prayers are appreciated and any support helps her as she continues this long, hard road. Lanie’sFund. I’ll be setting up a Give page for her soon.
